Baked French Toast Casserole
Baked French Toast Casserole at Shalini's Kitchen, a great weekend breakfast option. It is sort of between a french toast and bread pudding. And the best part - it is super easy to make. I was introduced to this by my mother-in-law, Barbara, and I make it every time I have friends and family over. Side note - I always use Challah bread because the end product turns out super moist and delicious, but you could use French bread or just a regular bread loaf.
RECIPE:
Ingredients -
1 loaf Challah bread, cut into cubes
4 eggs
2 cups milk
1 tsp Vanilla extract
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
Maple syrup (to serve)
Directions -
Place the bread cubes in a greased 2 quart baking dish.
Whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and vanilla in a bowl.
Pour the mix over the bread cubes and let it soak for an hour or so in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake for 40 minutes or until an inserted tooth pick comes out clean.
Sprinkle with additional cinnamon and serve with maple syrup.
